New district lines, precincts and polling places now in effect for May 24 Election

Press Release

PRESS RELEASE

FORSHTY COUNTY, Ga. — Multiple changes have been made that will impact Forsyth County voters during the 2022 election cycle including voter district lines, precincts and polling places.

“We strongly encourage all voters to familiarize themselves with where they will be voting and which districts now represent them before they head out to vote,” said Director of Voter Registrations & Elections Mandi Smith.

DISTRICT CHANGES

Every ten years following completion of the census, the U.S. Constitution requires all voting districts be evaluated to ensure equal representation. As law establishes that representatives are to be based on population, district lines are re-drawn as needed based upon changes in population. In Forsyth County, analysis of the census data has resulted in changes to all voting districts: congressional, state senate, state house, county commission and county school board.

The current district lines remain in effect through Dec. 31, 2022. The recently approved district lines will go into effect Jan. 1, 2023. The district representing a voter today could be different from the district representing the voter on Jan. 1, 2023. All races on the ballot for the 2022 election cycle will become
effective on Jan. 1, 2023 and represent the newly approved district lines. The following districts will represent Forsyth County:
• Congressional:
o District 6
• State Senate:
o Districts 27 and 48
• State House:
o Districts 11, 24, 25, 26, 28 and 100
• Forsyth County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education districts:
o Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
o All five district lines for both boards have been re-drawn. The district lines for both boards are the same.

o Board of Education district 2 and district 5 will be interchanged on Jan. 1, 2023 and the tenure for the districts will be transferred.
o Board of Education district 5 (formerly an area referred to as District 2) seat will now appear on the ballot for the 2022 election cycle.

PRECINCT AND POLLING PLACE CHANGES
On Feb. 11 and March 24, 2022, the Forsyth County Board of Voter Registrations & Elections approved multiple precinct and polling place changes that became effective with the 2022 election cycle. The approved changes resulted in 28 Election Day polling places and precincts to accommodate the increase
in registered voters.

Precinct cards will be mailed to all of the County’s registered voters with information pertaining to each voter’s Election Day polling place.

Additional information about the approved changes can be found on the Voter Registrations & Elections webpage.

Voters turn out in near-record numbers as advanced voting begins

News

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Approximately 9,000 voters — some waiting as long as two hours to cast their ballot — flocked to Forsyth County’s seven voting locations on the first two days of advanced voting in the 2020 Presidential Election.

“We heard on the news that it was a record-breaking day for the state,” Director of Voter Registration and Elections Mandi Smith said. “I haven’t checked for us specifically, but I believe it was for us as well.”

5,320 votes were cast on the first day, compared to the 3,500 votes on the first day of advanced voting in the 2016 presidential election,” Smith added. By midday on Tuesday, more than 3,000 votes were added.
“Overall thing went really welll,” she said. “When you have that many people come through, there are going to be lines. But the lines moved well. I don’t think anyone had more than a two-hour wait and that was at the peak. Most waited 30-45 minutes. The longest wait was at Sharon Springs Park.”
