BOC sets qualifying fee for 2022 election

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. – During one of the shortest meetings in years (36 minutes) the Board of Commissioners approved two key issues — the setting of qualifying fees for candidates who plan to run in the 2022 election and the sale of county property to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Qualifying fees were set as follows:

County Commission District 1 $1,102.43

County Commission District 3 $1,102.43

Board of Education District 1 $252

Board of Education District 2 $252

Solicitor General $4,117

State Court Judge $5,081.27

In other decisions, the Board approved:

  • A sketch plat for Cheer Investments to construct a indoor community recreation facility on 2.116 acres off Steeplechase Lane;
  • A county-initiated Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for agritourism on property currently zoned Agricultural District (A1) – Parcels 074-245, 074-149, 074-067, and 097-095 on Talant Drive to be used to host weddings, graduation photos, tree landscaping, etc.
  • Modifications to the Hotel, Motel and Lodging Excise Tax Ordinance, otherwise known to update the imposition of tax, definitions, collection and remittance requirements, electronic notices and to repeal conflicting ordinances.
  • A motion to deny modifications to ZA 3897.

The Board also recognized members of the new Student Government Academy whose members are appointed by principals at their respective high schools.

Following an executive session, the Board approved the sale of .579 acres of real property and .294 acre of property easement to the Georgia Department of Transportation for $53,800 as part of the widening of SR9. The property fronts Fowler Park and includes the Big Creek bridge. The Fowler Park monument will remain untouched as will the Historic Fowler House.
