Miracle League ball field at Lanierland Park named to honor Col. Carroll Edge

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The new Miracle League ball field at Lanierland Park will bear the name Col. Carroll and Judy Edge Field.

Commissioners recognized Col. Edge for his tireless advocacy for the Miracle League of Cumming/Forsyth County by naming the field in his honor at the Aug. 4 Board of Commissioners.

Col. Field has been supporting the Miracle League of Cumming/Forsyth County since its inception in 2005 helping to grow the league and provide a warm and welcoming experience for the participants and their families.

“Col. Edge’s deep love for the league participants and his dedication to ensuring each of them has a wonderful experience brings smiles to many in the community,” said District 5 Commissioner Laura Semanson. “He can be seen opening the gates at 7 a.m. on gamedays and frequently staying until all participants and their families have left the ballpark.”

The Col. Carroll & Judy Edge Field Miracle League Field will be one of many new amenities coming to Lanierland Park (6115 Jot-Em-Down Rd.) upon the completion of an expansive project that also includes:

– Eight tennis courts

– Four pickleball courts

– Four baseball/softball fields

– All-inclusive playground

– Hard and soft surface trails

– Football/lacrosse fieldhouse

– Additional parking

About the Miracle League of Cumming/Forsyth CountyThe Miracle League of Cumming/Forsyth County is a non-profit organization focused on providing a safe and enjoyable team sport experience for kids and adults with disabilities. Since it was formed in 2005, the league has had over 500 players ranging in ages from four to mid-60’s. In the spring of 2022, the league had 141 participants which was a record number.

Lanierland Park to close for major expansion project

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. – Lanierland Park (6115 Jot-Em-Down Rd.) will be temporarily closed on Jan. 10 to allow for earth moving work to be completed for a $16.5 million expansion project at the park. The park will be closed for one month, weather permitting.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as we make improvements to the park this year,” said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Pryor. “When it opens later this year, Lanierland will be one of the County’s premier parks. It will have something for everyone to enjoy.”

The construction is a part of phase two of the park’s master plan which includes the following additions to Lanierland Park:

  • Eight tennis courts
  • Four pickleball courts
  • Four baseball/softball fields
  • Miracle League baseball/softball field
  • All-inclusive playground
  • Hard and soft surface trails
  • Football/lacrosse fieldhouse
  • Additional parking

The consultant for the project is Lose Design, and the general contractor is Astra Group Inc. The project is being funded by SPLOST VIII and impact fees. Forsyth County, Georgia – Forsyth County officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 9, for an expansion project at Lanierland Park (6115 Jot-Em-Down Rd.). The expansion project, designated as phase two in the park’s master plan, includes the following:

 

– Eight tennis courts

– Four pickleball courts

– Four baseball/softball fields

– Miracle League baseball/softball field

– All-inclusive playground

– Hard and soft surface trails

– Football/lacrosse fieldhouse

– Additional parking

“We are pleased to bring these amenities to Lanierland,” said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Pryor. “With the new Miracle League Field and supporting facilities to enhance the Miracle League experience, the park will feature several different elements for everyone to enjoy.”

Current amenities at Lanierland Park will remain open during construction with the exception of the park’s walking trails.
