Georgia Freedom Caucus applauds US Supreme Court ruling on abortion

ATLANTA – This past week’s US Supreme Court rulings have been major steps forward for the values held by the Georgia Freedom Caucus. In the past week, the US Supreme Court has decided to protect our right to be alive and our right to preserve our lives.

Last week, the US Supreme Court made the landmark ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization declaring abortion not to be a Constitutional right. The Georgia Freedom Caucus commends the US Supreme Court for making the right decision however we also recognize that the fight to end abortion is far from over.

Founding member of the Georgia Freedom Caucus Rep. Charlice Byrd said:

“Because of this great ruling by the Supreme Court, countless children will escape the gruesome murder that is abortion. This will save lives and is a win for every little boy and girl whose life is spared. We must not let the pro-life movement end here, however. We must never relent in defending life at all stages. Glory be to God!”

The US Supreme Court also delivered a huge win for freedom lovers in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen where the court ruled it unconstitutional for a state to disallow a lawful gun owner from carrying a gun in public. This ruling will help protect lawful gun owners from gun grabbing liberals for years to come.

Founding member of the Georgia Freedom Caucus Rep. Emory Dunahoo said:

“This ruling affirmed what we already know to be true: shall not be infringed means shall not be infringed. The right to self-defense is a paramount part of the Second Amendment and this ruling

affirms that by preventing liberal states from disallowing citizens to carry. This is a big win for all freedom loving Americans!”

It is clear that life won twice this past week. In Dobbs, the right to simply be alive was protected. In NYSRPA, the right to preserve one’s own life via self-defense was protected. These are great wins for Georgia, for the United States, and a massive set of wins for the values of the Georgia Freedom Caucus.

Georgia Freedom Caucus candidates made a strong showing on Election Day

Press Release
PRESS RELEASE
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — There is no greater honor than to support the voters in the great state of Georgia. As the Georgia Freedom Caucus (GFC) has done since our founding last year, we continue to be stalwarts of the conservative movement with a tireless dedication to limited government and the Constitution.

This election was a resounding mandate from the voters of Georgia that they are sick and tired of the same old campaign promises without action. They want elected representatives to do what they said they would do.

It comes as no surprise that tonight in the Peach State, every single incumbent Freedom Caucus Member won re-election.  Furthermore, every first-time endorsed candidate either won their race or made it to the runoff.

We would like to congratulate State Senator Burt Jones on his victory in the Lieutenant Governor race.

We would also like to congratulate GFC Chairman Senator Greg Dolezal and GFC Secretary Representative Sheri Gilligan on their victories.  Rep. Gilligan missed avoiding a runoff by just 27 votes. Joining them in reelection wins are Representatives Emory Dunahoo and Charlice Byrd.

In what is likely the biggest win of the night, Georgia Freedom Caucus founding member Representative David Clark was victorious in his reelection bid, beating the establishment darling and Republican Caucus Chairman Bonnie Rich for HD-100.

Other big wins include first time candidates Shawn Still (SD-48), Colton Moore (SD-53), Mitchell Horner (HD-03), and Jordan Ridley (HD-22).

We congratulate Jeff Jones (SD-03) and Noelle Kahaian (HD-117) on making it to the runoff in their races.

Freedom Caucus says HB 1013 violates principles of conservative governance

Press Release

PRESS RELEASE

ATLANTA — The Georgia Freedom Caucus announced its opposition to HB 1013 a bill its members say would be a massive expansion of government control in healthcare

According to its press release, the Freedom Caucus, HB 1013 would: “Massively expand government in the style of ObamaCare; Enable back door gun-grabbing red flag laws and violate civil liberties; Put taxpayers on the hook for billions of dollars; Allow the APA and WHO to define “mental health” as they see fit and recommend treatments that violate the consciences of many Georgians;

The press release included statements from members of the Georgia Freedom Caucus

Statements From Members Of The Georgia Freedom Caucus:

  • Representative Phillip Singleton — “Protecting liberty and fighting against government mandates are core tenants of the Republican Party platform. This bill violates those principles and fails EVERY test of conservative governance. I refuse to stand idle while we pass liberal legislation that expands MEDICAID, raises premiums, creates more government bureaucracy, and will hurt the very Georgians it claims to help.”
  • Representative Sheri Gilligan — “There are ways to address the true mental health problems in our state without creating further problems by passing legislation with serious consequences. I am grateful to my Freedom Caucus colleagues for being willing to stand on this issue, even when we were standing alone at first. Now that people have had a chance to see the contents of this bill, their message is clear; we want solutions, we do not want HB1013.”

Representative Charlice Byrd — “This piece of legislation is fatally flawed. We have a duty to not expand the size or role of government, to protect the civil liberties of all Georgians, and to defend the values of our state. I cannot support legislation that is laying the ground work for Stacey Abrams radical agenda, and I am saddened that by my republican colleagues who are blindly going along with this massive government power grab.”
