Forsyth County earns award for excellence in financial reporting

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. – Christopher McKellar of the CPA firm of Mauldin and Jenkins presented the results of the 2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report at Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

“We issued a clean opinion, which means your financial statements do represent fairly in al material a reports,” McKellar said. “The county received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the report of 2019 and we expect the county to receive the award for 2020 when it is awarded.”

The report showed the county has $2.6 billion in assets, $728 million in liabilities for a total of $1.9 billion in equity. “The county has about $1.6 billion invested in capital assets.

The Board unanimously approved a request by the Finance Director to transfer $18,787,047 from the general fund budget to the Capital Outlay fund in addition to a one-time request to transfer $6,640,585 from the unassigned fund balance. Commissioners also approved a budget amendment resolution of $5,902,828 to close out the 2020 budget.

In other decisions, the Board:

  • To appoint a Senior Judge for the Probate County;
  • Purchase a supervisory control acquisition system at Shakerag Water Reclamation Facility at a cost of $165,642;
  • Awarded a bid for emergency repairs to the Daves Creek culvert to GP Enterprises in the amount of $195,935;
  • Agreed to send to a public hearing the possible revocation of a conditional use permit to TowerComV;
  • Agreed to send to a public hearing the possible revocation of a board generated rezoning for Wendal Miller;
  • Agreed to send to a public hearing a proposal to amend the UDC as it relates to sheds;
  • Postponed until Sept. 21 consideration of the Comprehensive Plan regarding Community Character map;
  • Postponed until Sept. 21 possible elimination of a requirement for a site development permit for a new building on an existing slab;
  • Power utility construction, maintenance, repair and access easement over Forsyth County property;
  • Awarded an administrative variance for a particular construction company to pour outside normal UDC hours;
  • Approved an Accountability Court Defender Agreement;
  • Approved a first amendment to a memorandum of understanding with Seefried Industrial Properties regarding the roundabout at Shiloh Road;
  • Conservation easement for Cooper Place Subdivision;
  • Granted a 90-day extension of a memorandum of understanding with RUS-Al (USA);
  • Authorized the county attorney to file action against four properties in magistrate court related to the nuisance ordinance and to commence demand action against two others.
