Region 6-AAAAAAA Power Rankings

Week 7 Region 6-ΑΑΑΑΑΑΑ Power Rankings

These are not final season projections, rather they are rankings of where these teams sit 7 weeks into the season. Rankings are based upon Strength of Schedule, Key Wins, Close losses vs higher ranked opponents, and finally bad losses.

  1. Milton Eagles (2-3)

Now you might see that Milton has three losses and think to yourself, “How are they number 1?”, well for that you’re going to have to look at their schedule. Since Milton has been very dominant in previous years, their non-region games are very difficult. Milton has played the #17 team nationally (Lipscomb), the #1 team in Missouri (Christian Brothers), and the last game they played was the #7 team in GA (North Cobb). In all three of these losses, they kept the game within two scores. In weeks 3 and 4 they picked up two great wins against a top #21 Roswell team and a tough Alpharetta team on the road. Nobody in the region comes close to having a schedule this hard and Milton showed they can compete with the best of the best.

     2. Lambert Longhorns (5-0)

Going into region play Lambert has the best record at an outstanding 5-0. Coach Marc Beach has brought a new type of energy into this program after losing some substantial stars last year and even made some new ones. The sophomore RB Tommy Lafayette has been a huge spark for this offense using him for most of the offensive production. After starting the year playing some easier competition they played Mountainview at home and showed their strengths winning by Multiple scores. Lambert was tested in their last game by playing the #31 teams in GA and handled them well, winning by 7. Lambert has really played above everyone’s projection and have a good shot of being a contender this year.

  1. Denmark Danes (4-1)

Denmark has had a great year. If it wasn’t for Lambert going undefeated they would easily be #2. After losing to #21 Roswell by 25 they bounced back and beat a good Cambridge team. Then on they continued to keep that streak alive and are sitting at 4-1. Denmark’s defense has been stellar this year, really making up for the below-projected offense. Their defense can help with their elite ability to force turnovers. Denmark will probably fizzle out and end up either at 3 or 4 in the region rankings.

  1. South Forsyth War Eagles (3-2)

South Forsyth was still high on everyone’s radar to win the region. After suffering some substantial injuries during the preseason, they still found a way to win two straight to start the year. Then dropping a loss to North Oconee who even though are ranked #26 held south to a 7-6 loss. This is honestly a fluke, especially with some standout playmakers like QB Ty Watkins, RB Maverick Schippmann, and a diverse group of electric receivers. On the defensive side just as solid with arguably the best linebacker group in the region. As soon as the star-studded Nelson brothers come back this will look like a brand new team. They are my pick to win the region.

  1. West Forsyth Wolverines  (3-2)

West is a very deceiving team. After only losing by 7 to Marietta they go and drop the ball against a very inferior North Forsyth team. They went on to win 3 of their easier games but losing to such an opponent as North Forsyth made such an impact on their ranking. West Forsyth has a good all-around team but a true shining star in Peyton Streko. Streko is averaging 151 yds per game and has almost all of the team’s touchdowns with 10. If Peyton can keep making plays as he has been it will be very hard to throw this team to the side.

  1. Forsyth Central Bulldogs (2-3)

Central is honestly exactly whom everyone thought they were. It’s been many seasons since Central has made a progressive impact and this season looks the same. They opened up the year on a high note beating a terrible Chattahoochee team and since then having no luck against three not-so-tough opponents. Then finally winning against the #421 team in GA. The season will be a win if they figure out a way to beat any other team in the region.
