Cumming man dies in 5-car crash Friday

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — One Cumming man was killed and another was charged with vehicular homicide following a 5-vehicle crash at the intersection of Ga. 400  Friday evening.

James Wright, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene after Freightliner tractor traveling northbound at highway speeds struck the rear of a Nissan. The Nissan Rogue and the Freightliner crossed over the center median into the southbound lanes.

The Freightliner which was driven ty 61-year-old Charles Wilkins of Cumming then struck a Kia Sorrento driven by Mr. Wright at the driver’s side front door. All other drivers and passengers, including Mr. Wilkins, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon discharge from the emergency room, Charles Wilkins was taken into custody and transported to the Forsyth County Jail charged with Homicide by Vehicle 1^st Degree, Reckless Driving, Too Fast for Conditions and Following Too Close.  He is being held on no bond.

This crash remains under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
