FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. – Division Fire Chief Jason Shivers reported Wednesday morning that a maintenance and storage facility belonging to Rakestraw Sanitation at 4065 Browns Bridge was destroyed by fire.

Shivers said the building was not occupied and there were no injuries reported. A passing motorist saw the smoke and reported the fire. “It sits off the road, so by the time the smoke became large enough for someone to see it, the fire was well involved. There was no salvaging the structure at all.”

The building collapsed shortly after the fire crew arrived.

Shivers added that it took fire crews many hours to extinguish the fire which caused major traffic delays

“This section of the road is a heavily trafficked road,” he said. “We had to stretch water supply lines along and down Browns Bridge Road. That was a big challenge to get traffic negotiated around the incident so we could work safely.”

The incident is under investigation.
